Welcome to the website for the 2016 American Studies Graduate Student Conference at Princeton University. For almost a decade now, the Princeton University Program in American Studies has supported graduate students in organizing cross-disciplinary conferences that bring in leading scholars as keynote speakers and provide opportunity for graduate students to present their research.

This year’s conference, was on March 25-26, 2016, and explored rural spaces, places, and people throughout American history and the present. Bringing together graduate students from over nine disciplines and even more institutions, we puzzled interdisciplinary questions of the social, cultural, legal, political and intellectual experience of rural life.

On this site you can find the call for papers, information about our keynote speakers and faculty commentators, abstracts of selected papers, and programming details. Check out the photos of the event, here. And you can listen to radio coverage of the conference, here.

Sincerely,

Heath Pearson & Emily Prifogle, Conference Organizers
